Dog Adoption Agreement
The following terms must be agreed to prior to the adoption of any of our dogs:
Ensure the dog lives inside the home as a family pet and will exercise diligent care to ensure the safe integration of the dog into my household and environment.
To not leave the dog unattended with any child under the age of 10 years.
To not leave the dog unsupervised in the garden for the first few days; not go out and leave my dog in the garden; not leave my dog alone for more than 4 hrs and where my working day is longer than 4 hours make provision for the dog to be checked on by either a trusted family member, friend, neighbour or dog sitter/walker of doggy day care.
If the dog is not already neutered, ensure that neutering is carried out as soon as possible by a qualified veterinary surgeon unless there are veterinary or age related reasons why the dog should not be neutered. To provide evidence of neutering to A New Leash for Life Rescue.
To discuss with A New Leash for Life Rescue before making MAJOR decisions severely affecting the health and welfare of the dog. In the case of an emergency, to inform A New Leash for Life Rescue as soon as reasonably practicable after veterinary treatment.
To advise A New Leash for Life Rescue of any vet recommendation for PTS BEFORE this is actioned unless this is an extreme emergency to alleviate animal suffering and an attempt has been made to contact us by phone call or message.
A New Leash for Life Rescue request that when you register your dog with a vet that you notify the veterinary practise that A New Leash for Life Rescue is the dog’s rescuing charity and have it recorded on your dog's records that A New Leash for Life Rescue is to be informed of any MAJOR decisions affecting the continued health and wellbeing of the dog. A New Leash for Life Rescue reserves the right to request details for the veterinary practice where your dog is registered and check with them that the above has been action.
Not allow the dog to be used for breeding or stud purposes.
Feed, house and care for the dog in accordance with the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and to the satisfaction of A New Leash for Life Rescue. To never keep the dog tethered, chained or housed outside.
Be responsible for the welfare and safety of the dog at all times and will not cause or permit anyone else to cause the dog unnecessary suffering or neglect.
To allow A New Leash for Life Rescue to visit my home to check on the welfare of the dog if concerns have been expressed or reported for its welfare.
Not allow the dog to be used for hunting purposes, for any form of experimentation, for stage purposes or for any form of criminal activity.
Obtain treatment from a qualified veterinary surgeon in all cases of injury or illness and ensure the dog receives appropriate regular veterinary health care.
Notify A New Leash for Life Rescue immediately in the event that your dog goes missing; if stolen or suspected of being stolen, the dog warden and police will also need to be notified
Keep microchip details current and update with new contact details where applicable supplied to PETtrac. Also to inform A New Leash for Life Rescue of any change of address or contact details.
Not attempt to remove the dual registration on your dog’s microchip.
Ensure that the dog wears a collar and name tag showing my surname and address and contact telephone number.
Ensure that for the first few weeks the dog will be kept on a lead when in a public place. Thereafter, you will only let the dog off the lead if certain it is safe to do so. Should the dog show any signs of aggression to people or other animals I will always keep the dog on a lead and muzzled in public and will seek the advice of a suitably qualified canine behaviourist.
To supply A New Leash for Life Rescue with regular updates about your adopted dog by either posting in our closed fb group; by rescue messenger or by email.
To make contact with A New Leash for Life Rescue at the first sign of any concerns or issues that are causing you to struggle with your adopted dog so that we may advise you; to follow any advice given and allow a reasonable amount of time for improvement and to inform A New Leash for Life Rescue if you have enlisted the help of a professional behaviourist and update with any progress/ lack of progress.
Not to sell or part with ownership or possession of your adopted dog. If unable to keep the dog for any reason, after discussion with the rescue team; I will return it to A New Leash for Life Rescue in accordance with the Rescue Backup Policy
Be fully aware and accept that the adoption fee is non- refundable.
Rescue dogs are offered for adoption and an adoption fee paid they are not sold commercially for profit and are therefore treated differently under the Consumer Rights Act 2015
To declare that you have never at any time been accused of or convicted of any welfare concerns, neglect or cruelty against any animal.
