Rescue dogs are rarely perfect; they will all need Time, Patience, Understanding and ongoing training regardless of their age.  Rescue dogs take time to adapt to living in a home environment and learning your expectations, this dosen't happen quickly in most cases. Rescue dogs need stability and an understanding that they will need time (At least 3 months) to settle, gain confidence and trust.
